WWE Smackdown October 29, 2010

MILWAUKEE – World Heavyweight Champion Kane’s funeral for The Undertaker turned to chaos, thanks to interruptions by Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio and Edge. Meanwhile, The Rated-R Superstar rose above his fellow contenders, winning a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender’s Match to secure the right to face “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” at Survivor Series.

Edge def. Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio in a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender’s Match
In a tumultuous Triple Threat Match that saw Edge, Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio battle tooth and nail for supreme victory, it was the nine-time World Champion who ultimately rose above. As Del Rio was attempting to counter Mysterio’s 619 attack – hoisting The Ultimate Underdog up on his shoulders – The Ultimate Opportunist blasted the aristocratic Superstar with the Spear for the victory. Despite an incredible battle by all three warriors, it is The Master Manipulator who will challenge World Heavyweight Champion Kane at Survivor Series (Match preview).

Big Show & Kofi Kingston def. “Dashing” Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre
Following a verbal exchange between Big Show and Cody Rhodes concerning Kelly Kelly, The World’s Largest Athlete recruited Kofi Kingston to help him take on the “Dashing” one and his partner Drew McIntyre. When Big Show looked ready to execute a giant chokeslam on Rhodes, the handsome Superstar signaled frantically for McIntyre to help. No assistance came from the “Chosen One,” however, and Rhodes was subsequently hurled to the canvas and defeated. Following the match, the former WWE Tag Team Champions dissolved their partnership in a heated argument.

Kelly Kelly won an Eight-Diva Tag Team Match
When a sultry Divas Halloween costume contest was cut short by Team Lay-Cool, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long decided to have the smart, sexy and powerful beauties battle it out in an Eight-Diva Tag Team Match. Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Kelly Kelly & Melina took on Michelle McCool, Layla, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes. In the end, Kelly Kelly – dressed as Little Bow Peep – defeated Rosa Mendes – dressed as a leprechaun – with the K2 legdrop.

Jack Swagger def. Kaval
Despite an incredible effort by Kaval, the tenacious Superstar was once again denied his first SmackDown victory, falling victim to Jack Swagger’s dreaded ankle lock.

United States Champion Daniel Bryan def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler in a Non-Title Match
In another intense match-up, Daniel Bryan defeated Dolph Ziggler for the third time in a week. As the United States Champion was trying to escape Ziggler’s infamous sleeper hold, the referee got knocked down. While the official was incapacitated, Ziggler went for the pin on his dazed adversary. Though his girlfriend, SmackDown Official Consultant Vickie Guerrero, entered the ring and counted to three, the recovered referee refused to acknowledge that the match was over. As Guerrero exited the ring, Bryan hit a devastating kick on his distracted opponent and picked up the three-count.

A funeral for The Undertaker
After burying The Undertaker alive at WWE Bragging Rights, Kane returned to SmackDown to inform the WWE Universe that they’d never see The Deadman again. Despite involvement by The Nexus in the epic pay-per-view showdown, Kane also dismissed the idea that anyone but he was responsible for the dark legend’s demise.

However, during a moment of silence for The Phenom, Alberto Del Rio interrupted, blatantly knocking Paul Bearer’s mystical urn to the mat. Moments after a conflict ensued, in which Del Rio took down the World Heavyweight Champion, Rey Mysterio emerged. Although Del Rio evaded the 619, The Ultimate Underdog dialed his favorite maneuver up on “The Father of Destruction.” Kane recovered and sent Mysterio from the ring, only to be Speared by Edge. Afterward, Long announced the Triple Threat No. 1 Contender’s Match between Del Rio, Mysterio and Edge to determine who would face The Big Red Monster at Survivor Series for the World Title.

MATCH:Tyler Reks def. Chris Masters
After brutalizing Kaval and stealing his spot on Team SmackDown on the Oct. 15 edition of SmackDown, Tyler Reks made it clear to the WWE Universe that he was here to make a serious impact. The dreadlocked devastator brought this focus to “WWE Superstars,” but he was locking up with a much larger opponent in the form of Chris Masters. As a man who could top Reks in the power department, The Masterpiece had the ability to stop the destructive Superstar, but Reks refused to be outdone. Displaying some serious strength of his own, the California native was able to hoist Masters above his head and slam him to the mat for a commanding victory.

MATCH:MVP def. Curt Hawkins
It was only three weeks ago on “WWE Superstars” that Curt Hawkins brutally ended his association with his former tag team partner Vance Archer. Hoping to now make his mark as a singles competitor, the aggressive SmackDown Superstar stepped into the ring with MVP tonight, but was unable to bounce The Ballin’ Superstar. Realizing that Hawkins was attempting to earn some attention by humiliating him, The Franchise Playa brought his A-game and stopped his hungry, young opponent with The Playmaker.

MATCH:Zack Ryder def. Tyson Kidd
As lifelong friends that practically grew up in a wrestling ring, The Hart Dynasty earned their reputation in WWE based on their flawless teamwork. But ever since dropping the WWE Tag Team Championships at Night of Champions, the team of Tyson Kidd & David Hart Smith has completely lost their ability to focus. The pink and black duo’s woes continued tonight as Kidd tried his luck in singles action against Zack Ryder and was defeated by The Long Island Loudmouth after a miscommunication with Smith. After the bout, the pair nearly came to blows before being separated by Natalya.

MATCH:Mark Henry def. Jey Uso
How do you overpower The World’s Strongest Man? That was the question on Jey Uso’s mind as he stepped into the ring with the massive Mark Henry. Unfortunately for the tag team specialist, Uso couldn’t figure out an answer to that problem. Even with his brother, Jimmy, and his manager, Tamina, attempting to interfere on his behalf, Jey couldn’t get the big man off his feet and was ultimately squashed by the World’s Strongest Slam.

WWE Tag Team Champions “Dashing” Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre def. MVP & Chris Masters
There was no shortage of ego on display when the sinister WWE Tag Team Champions battled The Ballin’ Superstar and The Masterpiece in non-title action. Although their coveted championships were not on the line, Rhodes & McIntyre didn’t plan on being embarrassed by their talented opponents and used every underhanded trick in the rule breaker book to guarantee victory. Still, the arrogant duo’s biggest advantage proved to be their experience. When the action reached a fever pitch with all four Superstars in the ring, Rhodes had the presence of mind to identify MVP as the legal man and nail him with the dreaded Cross Rhodes to score a huge win.

The Nexus invaded “WWE Superstars”
Although The Nexus has carried out their most shocking acts on Raw, the dangerous band of rebels has slowly spread across all of WWE like a ruthless virus. Tonight, the marauding faction made their first appearance on “WWE Superstars” where Wade Barrett issued some choice words to his WWE Bragging Rights opponent, WWE Champion Randy Orton. Guaranteeing victory, Barrett vowed that WWE would be forever changed once he captured the coveted title. The Nexus leader proved he’s not all bluster with his victory over John Cena at Hell in a Cell, so The Viper should be prepared for some serious competition on Sunday night.

William Regal def. Darren Young
Give Darren Young credit for trying. Two weeks after falling to William Regal on “WWE Superstars,” the energetic competitor locked up with the dangerous veteran again and pushed his rival to the limit. Using his speed and tenacity to disorient The British Brawler, the former Nexus member came within a hair of winning, but was ultimately caught off guard by Regal’s brutal offense. He may have lost in the end, but Young proved to the WWE Universe that he belongs in the ring with the best of them.

Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov def. The Usos
Whoever coined the saying “opposites attract” must have seen the team of Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov in action. Since linking up on Raw, the duo has impressed with some big victories and continued this trend tonight by defeating Jimmy & Jey Uso. Working together flawlessly, the powerful Kozlov battered their opponents while Santino waited for the perfect moment to execute his dreaded “cobra” strike and pick up the victory. The members of Team Raw are hoping the Italian Superstar will be as effective when he joins them in the WWE Bragging Rights Tag Team Elimination Match on Sunday.

EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada – Just like on Monday’s Raw, SmackDown prevailed when both brands went to war. But in a shocking end to the main event – in which WWEChampion Randy Orton defeated World Heavyweight Kane to get a win for Raw – The Undertaker emerged through the bottom of the ring and pulled "The Devil's Favorite Demon" below.

WWE Champion Randy Orton def. World Heavyweight Champion Kane

WWE Champion Randy Orton made a rare trip to SmackDownto take on World Heavyweight Champion Kane. With major matches looming at WWE Bragging Rights for both Superstars, it was WWE’s Apex Predator who prevailed after a distraction from an unseen Undertaker.

Following a brief moment of darkness in the arena, Orton struck with a blistering RKO for the win. After the loss, a rattled Kane searched about for his brother. Then, The Deadman finally revealed his presence by emerging right through the bottom of the ring to grab hold of The Big Red Monster! With Kane grasping at the tattered mat, The Demon of Death Valley pulled his brother below the ring. Is it an ominous sign of things to come in their Buried Alive Match at WWE Bragging Rights?

Kelly Kelly & Natalya def. The self-professed "Co-Divas Champions" Layla & Michelle McCool
In a match featuring Lay-Cool mocking members of the legendary Hart family, Natalya served up some retribution by making self-professed "Co-Divas Champion" Layla submit to the Sharpshooter. At WWE Bragging Rights, Layla will be the one to defend the Divas Championship against Natalya. Who will prevail when the Divas Title is at stake? (Preview)

Edge def. CM Punk by Disqualification
In a match that Edge called for against CM Punk, mayhem ensued when members of Team Raw interfered. Although the match was ruled an immediate disqualification win for Edge, it was far from over. Chaos reigned as Superstars from both brands tangled with one another. In the end, the blue brand stood tall after The Ultimate Opportunist Speared Punk. Which brand will reign supreme at WWE Bragging Rights?

Alberto Del Rio def. John Morrison
After driving himself to the ring in a Mercedes, Alberto Del Rio went to work against John Morrison, who requested the bout at the start of the night. Despite picking his opponent, The Monday Night Delight failed to win on a Friday, after he was forced to submit to Del Rio’s highly-effective cross armbreaker.

Jack Swagger def. Santino Marella
In a match called for by Jack Swagger, it was mascot mayhem when Santino Marella struck the "Swagger Soaring Eagle" with his deadly "cobra" strike. Next, Hornswoggle capitalized and hit the bird with a splash from atop the ring steps. Finally, The All-American American put an end to the hijinks when he forced Marella to tap out of his painful ankle lock.

Big Show, Rey Mysterio & Kofi Kingston def. The Miz, Sheamus & Ezekiel Jackson
The night kicked off with members of Raw and SmackDown issuing challenges to each other – as well as a major tone-setting win for the blue brand.

After Big Show downed The Miz with a brutal chokeslam in the ensuing Six-Man Tag Team Match, Rey Mysterio finished off the Team Raw captain with a stunning splash from atop the shoulders of The World’s Largest Athlete. SmackDown is looking to carry the momentum forward to WWE Bragging Rights.

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Halloween may be a night for demonic spirits to wreak havoc on the living, but just six days prior to All Hallows Eve, a presence equally as sadistic, Wade Barrett, was busy haunting his nemesis, John Cena.

MATCH:John Cena def. WWE Champion Randy Orton by Disqualification

Turnabout, meet fair play. One night earlier, Wade Barrett had defeated WWE Champion Randy Orton by disqualification at WWE Bragging Rights thanks to John Cena. Tonight, the Englishman made certain Cena won his match against Orton by the very same means.

No, Barrett wasn’t really helping Cena, per se – he was helping himself. You see, earlier in the evening, Raw’s anonymous GM arranged a no disqualifications, no count-outs Match, featuring a special guest referee, in four weeks at Survivor Series between Barrett and Orton for the WWE Title. Were The Viper to win, he would choose the referee. If Cena were to win, however, the fester from Manchester would choose, which is precisely what happened.

After Barrett ambushed The Nexus’ reluctant warrior, the rest of the outlaws, including Nexus' newest members, Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty, charged the ring to attack Orton. Cena fought them off before Barrett exercised his right to select the guest referee for his championship match against WWE’s Apex Predator. In a shrewd stroke, the Nexus leader chose Cena, but not without thickening the plot. Barrett added that if he wins the WWE Title at Survivor Series, Cena is free from The Nexus. However, if he does not win the championship, Cena will be fired!

Pee-wee Herman will guest star on Raw next week
Prepare for one big adventure as Pee-wee Herman rides in next Monday as Raw celebrity guest star. The irreverent comedian is taking a break from his Broadway show, The Pee-wee Herman Show, to bring his special brand of humor – and red bowtie – to the WWE Universe.

MATCH:Santino Marella def. Sheamus
Yes, you read that correctly. An irate Sheamus challenged Santino Marella to a match – and lost! The Irishman pinned Team Raw’s poor showing at WWE Bragging Rightson The Italian Stallion. Rather than succumbing to the Celtic clubbing one might expect, Santino had help from Team Raw cohort John Morrison, who helped dropped the pale persecutor and allow the Italian to cover for the three-count.

MATCH:The Miz def. R-Truth
When you point a finger at others, remember that four of your fingers are pointing back at you. It’s a lesson The Miz would be wise to remember. Instead, Raw’s Team captain blamed his teammates for their loss at WWE Bragging Rights. When Eve came out to set him straight, he was hardly receptive. That’s when R-Truth arrived to put an exclamation on her point.

Before things turned too heated, Raw’s mystery GM arranged a match then and there. While Truth hit “The Cleveland Screamer” with more than just the facts, Mr. Money in the Bank still managed to prevail as his assistant Alex Riley watched from ringside.

Prior to the match, Miz told the WWE Universe that Team SmackDown’s Rey Mysterio should have been disqualified at WWE Bragging Rights and then challenged him to show up on Raw next week.

MATCH:Self-professed “Co-WWE Divas Champions” Michelle McCool & Layla def. Melina & Gail Kim
Will someone – anyone! – please put WWE’s Mean Girls in their place? Self-proclaimed “Co-WWE Divas Champions” Michelle McCool & Layla once again won – and boasted about being the “greatest WWE Divas in history.” After defeating Natalya the night before at WWE Bragging Rights, Lay-Cool disposed of Melina & Gail Kim, when McCool pinned the lovely Latina. What-eva!

MATCH:U.S. Champion Daniel Bryan def. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler in a Non-Title Match
Arrogant, manipulative, conceited … unlucky? During his match against U.S. Champion Daniel Bryan at WWE Bragging Rights last night, Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler lost when the referee appeared to blow a call. Tonight, with Ziggler’s lady friend, SmackDown Official Consultant Vickie Guerrero, and a watchful CM Punk observing from ringside, Ziggler again went down in flames after yet another seeming mistake by a referee.

MATCH:Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater def. WWE Tag Team Champions David Otunga & John Cena; WWE Champion Randy Orton to face John Cena Wade Barrett appeared as dark and moody as a winter in England. No wonder. The night before at WWE Bragging Rights, the leader of The Nexus informed John Cena that if he were to lose his match against WWE Champion Randy Orton, Cena would be fired from WWE. Well, the petulant Brit defeated The Viper by disqualification thanks to a well-timed Attitude Adjustment on him by his unwilling bodyguard, Cena. One problem: A title cannot change hands on a disqualification. All of which meant that Cena would not be fired and that Orton would retain the title.

Barrett, however, knew he possessed leverage. At WWE Bragging Rights, Cena was forced to pair with David Otunga, and the two captured the WWE Tag Team Titles. The men would soon be stripped of those honors when Barrett arranged a match and ordered Otunga to lay down for Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater, who walked away new champions.

Afterward, Raw’s anonymous General Manager stated, via laptop, that Orton would defend his title against Barrett in four weeks in a match featuring no disqualifications, no count-outs and a special guest referee. To determine the referee, the WWE Champion was forced to battle a member of Nexus, with the winner to select who’ll wear the stripes. Barrett’s choice of Nexus member to face Orton? John Cena, but of course

MATCH:World Heavyweight Champion Kane def. The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell
Match)

DALLAS – Locking horns with his brother, The Undertaker, inside the chaotic confines of Hell in a Cell, World Heavyweight ChampionKane emerged from Satan’s Structure with his coveted “holy grail” after Paul Bearer turned on The Phenom.

In a pre-match interview with Josh Mathews, the returning “Father of Destruction” explained that he’s been spending the past six years biding his time and “waiting for the time” to make his presence felt. Indeed, Bearer made an impact at Hell in a Cell – but not in the way The Undertaker had anticipated.

In this epic encounter, which shook the very foundation of Dallas’ American Airlines Center, Kane seemed to gain the upper hand when he successfully reversed The Undertaker’s Tombstone Piledriver into a vicious Tombstone of his own. However, scoring only a two-count, The Big Red Monster went into a rage, knocking out the referee and prompting WWEofficials to open the structure and tend to him. Bearer entered the open door during the confusion, and following a brief altercation with Kane, he used the mysterious incandescence of The Undertaker’s urn to weaken The Phenom. Bearer then handed his son the infamous vessel, which he then used as a weapon against The Deadman. One ring-rattling chokeslam later, Kane walked out of Hell in a Cell still the World Heavyweight Champion, his devious father by his side.

Kane’s victory inside the Devil’s Playground brings his storied rivalry with his brother full-circle. It was during the very first Hell in a Cell Match at Bad Blood 1997 when Kane – brought into WWE by his father – tore the door off the two-ton steel structure to deliver a history-changing Tombstone to his half-brother. At Hell in a Cell, 13 years later, “The Father of Destruction” and “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” joined forces once again, uniting under a common goal: To decimate The Deadman.

This latest chapter in the saga of The Brothers of Destruction began on Memorial Day weekend, when Kane brutally assaulted The Undertaker and left him in a “vegetative state.” Not content with living in his brother’s shadow, Kane claimed the attack was part of a long-gestating plot to bring about The Phenom’s demise.

Capturing the World Heavyweight Title at Money in the Bank, Kane later affirmed that he was now in possession of his brother’s otherworldly powers – a claim put to the test at SummerSlam when The Phenom resurfaced to challenge his calculating sibling. However, The Undertaker was hardly at 100 percent, and was Tombstoned into oblivion on that scorching August night.

Weeks later, Kane and The Undertaker collided for the World Heavyweight Title at Night of Champions in a No Holds Barred Match. In that harrowing battle, The Big Red Machine would prove the more ruthless Brother of Destruction, dominating The Deadman and once again driving him into the canvas with a devastating Tombstone.

It seemed as though not even The Undertaker could end Kane’s reign of terror, but the winds of change blew coldly on the Sept. 24 edition of SmackDown, when a returning Paul Bearer emerged from a casket, holding The Phenom’s legendary urn aloft. The urn – long believed to be the source of The Undertaker’s power – enlivened the weakened seven-time World Champion. At that instant, Kane was stricken with fear: It seemed his quest to destroy his brother would come to an abrupt and unsuccessful end at Hell in a Cell.

However, Bearer had a quest all his own, making his motivations clear when his treachery secured a tainted victory for "The Devil's Favorite Demon."

Why did “The Father of Destruction” betray The Undertaker? What lies ahead for The Brothers of Destruction? Find out this Friday night on SmackDown at 8/7 CT on Syfy.

MATCH:Wade Barrett def. John Cena (Cena now a member of The Nexus)

Night Of Champions 2010(PPV) Results

MATCH:Randy Orton wins Six Pack Elimination Challenge (New WWE Champion)

CHICAGO – Like a snake lingering in high grass, Randy Orton waited, biding his time, until, finally, the moment arrived. He plunged his ever-dangerous fangs deep into the hearts of his opponents and, once again, coiled himself around the WWE Championship.

In the Six Pack Elimination Challenge at Night of Champions, The Viper used those fangs to slither past five of WWE’s most impressive Superstars – Sheamus, John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho and Wade Barrett – en route to the coveted WWEChampionship.

Orton’s path to the title was hardly without obstacle. According to the rules of the Six Pack Elimination Challenge, a sextet of Superstars swarm the ring, with eliminations decided via pinfall or submission. The winner remains the last competitor standing.

During the contest, Chris Jericho was quickly eliminated by Orton with Edge following him out a while later thanks to an Attitude Adjustment from Cena. With the elimination of two Superstars, only Sheamus, Cena, Barrett and Orton remained.

Since the contest stipulations include no disqualifications, The Nexus, not surprisingly, took full advantage. With their leader struggling to oust fellow competitors, the armbanded cavalry – Justin Gabriel, David Otunga, Heath Slater and Michael Tarver – disrupted the proceedings, distracting the oft-targeted Cena. The distraction allowed Barrett to hit the Wasteland on Cena and pin him just before the English overlord himself fell victim to an RKO from Orton and was eliminated.

And then there were two. WWE’s Apex Predator and The Celtic Warrior have a sordid history with one another. Last month at SummerSlam, Sheamus retained his title over Orton, but only after losing via disqualification. In the Six Pack Elimination Challenge, however, there would be no stipulation in which to seek sanctuary. Instead, The Viper would leverage the momentum and intimidation he has amassed the past several weeks. With in his eyes narrowed and cunning, Orton struck, devastating Sheamus with a victory clinching RKO.

And with that, The Viper coiled around the WWE Championship for the sixth time in his career, solidifying his legacy in the same arena where he had secured his very first WWE Title, and ensuring that a host of Superstars will be just itching to skin him.
